The dirty water from our homes, businesses and factories needs to be cleaned before it is returned back into nature… And wastewater treatment plants are the guys that do this job….. This is very important because the water we use can be lost harmful such as: chemicals, waste and other dangerous things that they hurt the plants, animals, or even people. Wastewater treatment plants undergo a sequence of steps to treat the water thoroughly — starting with screening, settling and disinfection. The various steps are distinguished by the type of pollutants they remove and all go hand in hand to ensure that water is safe for introduction back into environment.

The Process of Wastewater Treatmen

Screening: The very first stage of waste water treatment process is screening. This removes large items such as leaves, rocks and trash from the dirty water. These large items must be removed to avoid the issues they can cause later in treatment. The water then flows into the settling tank where more solids settle out The heavy materials (dirt and sand) also settle to the bottom of this tank, where they are then removed. It is called settling and it simply allows the solids to separate from the water (solid waste goes in, clean-ish(er) discharge comes out).

After that, the water is applied a good deal of specials chemicals to make it clean. This step ensures that all of the water is cleansed by chemicals present in it and consuming any residue left behind from dangerous substances. Last, the water is treated with either chlorine or ultraviolet light to kill bacteria. This is essential as it eliminates any leftover pathogens that may induce disease. When all these protocols are followed through the water is able to be purified and released back into the environment.
